The short answer is: <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE 2019-06 : <a href=\"https:\/\/1drv.ms\/u\/s!AgKVjkGLJKR6lEGqZTL-REZddYas?e=R27WWk\">Drivers download link<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>Summary<\/h1>\n<p>After post-install fixes, these items are not yet working:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WebCam<\/li>\n<li>Turning Bluetooth on\/off via software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And the following items have not been tested:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Modem<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Everything else seems to be working just fine. Not bad for a pretty old and underpowered laptop!<\/p>\n<h1>Base Install<\/h1>\n<p>The base install went quite easily, taking some time due to spinning disk, but nevertheless no worries. Ended up using just over 8GB of diskspace,\u00a0around 9GB after a couple of updates and Skype was installed.<\/p>\n<h2>Issues<\/h2>\n<h3>What worked?<\/h3>\n<p>Almost everything. Not too shabby for an old bespoke piece of kit.<\/p>\n<p>The most surprising entry\u00a0here was\u00a0the fingerprint reader.<\/p>\n<h3>What didn&#8217;t?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Three devices in the Device Manager: SD and MS card readers, and an unknown device.<\/li>\n<li>The special hardware buttons on the front.<\/li>\n<li>Some of the Fn keys.<\/li>\n<li>The microphone and webcam. Nothing flagged up in Device Manager, but no go either.<\/li>\n<li>Disabling bluetooth. Funnily enough disabling Wifi works.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Post-install fixes<\/h1>\n<p>All drivers were downloaded from the official <a title=\"Sony Support Site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sony-asia.com\/support\/product\/vgn-tz26gn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sony Support Site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Memory Stick and SD-Card reader<\/h2>\n<p>Simple case of heading over to the Sony support site, downloading and installing the drivers. This sorted out the\u00a0device errors in the Device Manager. A quick test showed them working now.<\/p>\n<p>Status: <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>SUCCESS<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Unkown Device<\/h2>\n<p>The Unknown Device turned out to be the Sony Firmware Extension Parser (SFEP).\u00a0A quick download from the Sony support site and it installed flawlessly.<\/p>\n<p>Status: <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>SUCCESS<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Microphone<\/h2>\n<p>So the microphone did end up working just fine, it&#8217;s just that the TZ has both a built-in microphone as well as a microphone jack, and Windows 10 defaulted to the jack. Switching defaults in the properties and it&#8217;s all good.<\/p>\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69f60bd39ab0c\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"First Attempt\"    >First Attempt<\/span><div id=\"target-id69f60bd39ab0c\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\n<ul>\n<li>Downloaded Audio driver from Sony support site.<\/li>\n<li>Created a restore point<\/li>\n<li>Tried to install the driver.<\/li>\n<li>The driver failed to install from the setup program, but installed fine when manually clicking on the various <code>inf<\/code> files in the driver package.<\/li>\n<li>Microphone\u00a0still not working, but found second device in Audio Settings now. Set other device as default, et voila, va haff a vorkink mikrofon! Now I wonder if it was always working&#8230; let&#8217;s try a\u00a0System Restore!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Status: <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>SUCCESS<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Camera<\/h2>\n<p>As for all the other issues,\u00a0Step 1 is to download the Camera driver from the Sony support site.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately the driver fails to install. Even forcing the install manually fails to get the camera working, as does running the installer in compatibility mode.<\/p>\n<p>For now, the webcam\u00a0goes down as broken \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>Status: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>FAIL<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0Keys<\/h2>\n<p>To get the keys working, download and install the following drivers in this order, rebooting as necessary between each one:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Install Sony Firmware Extension Parser (<code>SFEP.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Install Sony Shared Library\u00a0(<code>Sony_Shared_Library.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Install Sony DLL Utils \/ Setting Utility Series\u00a0(<code>Setting_Utility_Series.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Install VAIO Event Service (<code>VAIO _Event_Service.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And both hardware keys and Fn-keys are now armed and fully operational!<\/p>\n<p>Status: <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>SUCCESS<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Bluetooth<\/h2>\n<p>While it works, it&#8217;s impossible to turn it off without using the hardware switch, which also turns off Wifi.<\/p>\n<p>Attempting to install the driver from the Sony support site failed with a message saying the software is incompatible with this version of windows.<\/p>\n<p>Status: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>FAIL<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I got bored and decided to see if I could get an old VAIO VGN-TZ27GN running Windows 10.
