{"id":195,"date":"2014-04-29T23:13:13","date_gmt":"2014-04-29T23:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.micha.name\/blog\/?p=195"},"modified":"2014-11-23T17:39:37","modified_gmt":"2014-11-23T17:39:37","slug":"upgrading-my-samsung-note-ii-n7100-to-android-4-4-kitkat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.micha.name\/blog\/2014\/04\/29\/upgrading-my-samsung-note-ii-n7100-to-android-4-4-kitkat\/","title":{"rendered":"Upgrading my Samsung Note II (N7100) to Android 4.4 &#8220;KitKat&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><html><head><\/head><body>A friend posted to let me know that Android 4.4 &#8220;KitKat&#8221; had just been released for the N7100.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Install:<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>So I backed up all of my data on the phone (using a combination of Titanium Backup, SMS Backup+, and LifeSaver), and downloaded and flashed the firmware the new firmware using Odin.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Lo and behold, a (very slow) reboot later, pretty much everything worked. &nbsp;All my apps and settings are still there, which is nice.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 21px; font-weight: bold; \">Tweaks:<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>* Reinstall a custom recovery (TWRP)\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>* Re-rooted\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>* Deleted startup sound (\/system\/media\/audio\/ui\/PowerOn.ogg)\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 21px; font-weight: bold; \">Issues:<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>ADWLauncherEx is quite laggy; so perhaps it needs updating for the latest Android. For now I&#8217;m using the updated TouchWiz (the Samsung launcher), but it&#8217;s still limited to a ridiculous 4&#215;4 icons per screen. &nbsp;Ridiculous, at least, on the Note 2 which has a very nice large display; might make more sense on a smaller phone.
